I know TAJ talks a lot about bond reform in Houston because people are out here talking about they don't have enough money, you know. People could be sitting in court waiting, and don’t know if they could be found guilty or not.

TAJ- Criminal Justice Organizer (She/They/Ella)
Houston - Texas Advocates for Justice is located in the historic fifth ward community. A base-building community of organizers supporting each other who the criminal legal system has directly impacted. TAJ members meet monthly at the Grassroots Leadership office to discuss policies that affect their community, host healing gatherings, and be there for one another in the movement.

TAJ- Austin Organizer (They/Them)
Texas Advocates for Justice- ATX has grown over the years into an organization where people obtain resources and support and learn about the policies in the community that can affect them. TAJ- ATX meets monthly with base members at the Grassroots Leadership headquarters to extend supportive services and education about learning how to shift power dynamics in the criminal legal system.

Participatory Defense and Bail Organizer (She/Her)
The Austin- Participatory Defense program has become a family in the Austin community. Working with people directly impacted by the criminal legal system but encouraging their families to learn more about the carceral system makes the program thrive. Teaching people about systems and ways to protect themselves and loved ones is a few reasons this program continues to thrive.
